  • While the band's story is completely fictional, McKean, Guest and Shearer actually did write, sing and play the songs.
  • The sit-down interview segments are meant as a parody of Martin Scorsese's 1978 documentary [tt0077838 The Last Waltz], about the original "last" concert of The Band.
  • Many real-life rock stars have acknowledged how accurate the film is. Ozzy Osbourne has said that it might as well have been an actual documentary. Tom Waits couldn't even look at it. Ann Wilson of Heart said that she watched it and thought, "Oh my God, that's me!"
  • It is one of the most quoted, quotable and memetic films of all time. In 2003, Entertainment Weekly ranked it #1 on their list of "The Top 50 Cult Films."
