Background
It is uncertain when the film was shot, though the production occurred some time between 1978 and 1980, with filming taking place in Idyllwild, California. The Prey was acquired for distribution by New World Pictures, and debuted on premium television in Canada in November 1983, later airing on the American premium television network Showtime the following year. It was subsequently released on VHS by Thorn EMI in 1988. In 2019, Arrow Films announced they had completed a restoration of the film in preparation for an impending Blu-ray release, marking the first home media release of the film in North America since 1988.
