  • The film was nominated for the Grand Prix at the Moscow International Film Festival, losing to Federico Fellini's 8 1/2.

  • The company that produced films based on Edgar Wallace novels sued the producers of this film, who advertised it as an Edgar Wallace "mystery" even though it was clearly based on a novel written by his son, Bryan Edgar Wallace. They won, and the ads were soon changed to read "Edgar Bryan Wallace".

  • This was one of the few German films of the "krimi" genre to receive wide distribution through a major distributor (Paramount).
