• In the original, pre-Midnight Show, unrated version, when Jimmy Cliff is lashed for slicing his antagonist, there are shots of frontal nudity when he is strapped over the barrel, making his urination explicit.

• The 25th Anniversary re-release cuts out the following scenes: The dinner with the Minister | Fixing the Bicycle | Part of the movie theater scene where Ivan sees Jimmy Cagney stand off cops with empty guns.

• Because of the thick accents, and the extensive use of Jamaican slang, the U.S. release prints contained English subtitles.
