- Won three awards at the Sitges - Catalonian International Film Festival in Catalonia, Spain in 1972. It won the Medalla Sitges en Plata de Ley for Best Film, Best Actor (Rudolf Hrusínský) and Best Cinematography (Stanislav Milota).
- Czechoslovakia's Communist government banned the film after its premiere and it remained locked away until the Velvet Revolution brought down the Communists in 1989.
- Submitted to the Academy Awards for nomination for Best Foreign Film, it was not nominated.
