Dr’s Inge and Sten Hegeler return to give more helpful advice to those of us who spend too much time watching Swedish sex education films, and not enough time having sex, in this follow up to ‘Language Of Love’. This time out we’re treated to discussions of homosexuality, the sex lives of people with disabilities, pornography, sexually transmitted diseases and that kitsch 70s phenomenon ‘the flasher’. While the explicit sexual content is considerably higher than in the earlier film the sensitive subjects under scrutiny make for a far from erotic experience.
Visiting “special meeting places for homosexuals” we witness some formation disco dancing, the static electricity generated by all the nylon shirts and lamb chop sideburns present surely enough to light the whole of Stockholm.
We drop in at an STD clinic to get an up close and personal look at some poor Don Juan who has just been diagnosed with gonorrhoea and I guarantee that this scene will have all but the bravest of male viewers crying for mother.
Next we check out a class full of blind kids fondling rubber dongs before graduating to reading Braille off the nipples on 2 nude volunteers. It was at this point, having picked my jaw up off the floor, that I decided that all Swedes are fucking crazy.
Wherever next I hear you ask? Behind the scenes on the shooting of a Scandinavian porno movie that’s where, and nothing is left to the imagination. So when is pornography not pornography? When it’s contrived for the purposes of an ‘educational’ documentary about sexual behaviour of course. Please keep up.
I started to fear what the film might have in store for me next and sure enough I was not disappointed by the site of an overweight Colonel Sanders look-a-like and an equally ‘mature’ ladyfriend in the middle of a vibrator assisted coital clinch.
As with the previous film any titillation that could have resulted from the nudity and the sex scenes is deflated when the viewer is being regularly reminded of the crude realities of personal hygiene and the generally wonky aesthetics of male and female private pieces. In fact it’s almost enough to put one off Swedish sex education films for life.
