  • SUBTITLES: English
  • SPECIAL FEATURES: Liner Notes | Bonus Trailers (no trailer for Lady Snowblood)
  • DVD COMMENTS: Animeigo’s disc got an amazing amount of praise from the US critics back in 2004, but the truth is that their DVD doesn’t quite live up to its reputation. It’s remastered and certainly not bad, but the colours are a bit off, the sharpness isn’t the best, and the transfer looks a little dark. The audio can be slightly harsh at times, too. This is still the best English-subtitled DVD available, but the Japanese DVD, also released in 2004, is notably better. - HungFist

  • PICTURE: 2.35:1 Anamorphic PAL
  • SOUND: Japanese Mono

  • STUDIO: Warrior
  • PICTURE: 2.35:1 Non-Anamorphic PAL

  • DVD COMMENTS: The oldest and worst DVD available for Lady Snowblood. Avoid! - HungFist

Germany

Shurayukihime1r2de.jpg
  • Released in 2005
  • Region 2
  • 97 min
  • STUDIO: R.E.M
  • PICTURE: 2.35:1 Anamorphic PAL
  • SOUND: Japanese Mono
  • SUBTITLES: German
  • SPECIAL FEATURES: Interview with Mark Schilling | Picture Gallery | Original Trailer | Bonus Trailers
  • DVD COMMENTS: Truly weird! While the Australians were wise enough to get their extras from Japan, they got the film transfer itself from the wrong country (USA). The Germans seem to have gotten their transfer from Japan, but forgotten to include the Japanese extras. Instead, they have an interview with The Japan Times’s Mark Schilling. The transfer is a NTSC to PAL conversion, but due to better source material, it should still be better than the US and AU DVDs. However, I have not seen this German DVD myself. - HungFist

Japan

Shurayukihime1rj.jpg
  • Released in 2004
  • Region 2
  • 97 min
  • STUDIO: Toho
  • PICTURE: 2.35:1 Anamorphic NTSC
  • SOUND: Japanese Dolby Digital 2.0 (192 Kbps)
  • SUBTITLES: Japanese (hard of hearing)
  • SPECIAL FEATURES: Meiko Kaji Interview (15:32) | Kazuo Koike Interview (11:12) | Theatrical Trailer (2:45) | Lady Snowblood 2 Trailer (2:23) | Artwork Gallery | Booklet (6 pages)
  • DVD COMMENTS: This progressive, window-boxed transfer is not as perfect as some of Toei's work, but still looks very nice. Easily better than the US release by Animeigo. The audio is also notably better than on the R1 DVD. The extras feature some nice treasures for those who speak Japanese. - HungFist
