  • Unit director James Cameron got maggots to wriggle on a severed arm by passing an electric current through it, impressing a couple of producers and earning him his next job. And so a career was born.
  • Set dresser on this film was Bill Paxton before he took to acting. He was employed by the film's art director, future frequent collaborator James Cameron.
  • A clip of this movie is on "The 50 Worst Movies Ever Made" DVD Region 1 NTSC.
  • Originally, Taaffe O'Connell's character was supposed to be attacked and eaten by the giant worm. The change to her being raped by it was a last minute decision by the director.
