Fiend Without a Face has been released on DVD through The Criterion Collection. The film is presented in its original aspect ratio of 1.66:1 and has been enhanced for 16x9 televisions. The black and white film is immaculately transferred and I would venture to say that it looks as good as the day it came out of the camera. Extras on the disc include a fascinating commentary track featuring genre film writer Tom Weaver interviewing the film's producer Richard Gordon, five trailers of Gordon-produced films (Fiend Without a Face, The Haunted Strangler, Corridors of Blood, First Man into Space, and The Atomic Submarine), an illustrated essay by film historian Bruce Eder (which features pretty good use of the word bugaboo), a still photo gallery with commentary by Weaver and Gordon, and two other still galleries that are only presented silently. Though this film isn't quite as groundbreaking as the Criterion logo would suggest, it is a great presentation for a fairly mediocre film.
