John Woo is a Chinese movie director known for his 80s Hong Kong gun operas (e.g. A Better Tomorrow, The Killer, Hard Boiled). In his early years in the 70s he made martial arts movies, since the 1990s he's also active in Hollywood (e.g. Hard Target, Face/Off) but in recent years has shifted his focus back to making movies in Asia (e.g. The Crossing).
