  • Final Amityville film to be released theatrically until the original was remade in 2005. 1989's Amityville Horror: The Evil Escapes (which was actually based on the third novel in the series) was a TV Movie, and the next four (The Amityville Curse [1990], Amityville 1992: It's About Time, Amityville: A New Generation [1993], and Amityville: Dollhouse [1996]) were all released direct to video.
  • This one and 2017's Amityville: The Awakening are the only ones not based on a book.
  • The character of John Baxter is loosely based on Stephen Kaplan and his investigation of the house, who at the time was trying to prove the Lutzes' story was a hoax.
  • Due to a lawsuit between the Lutz family and Dino De Laurentiis over the storyline which did not involve the Lutz family, Amityville 3-D was not called a sequel in the marketing.
