  • This was intended as the second of a three-picture deal Russ Meyer had with 20th Century Fox, after Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Its critical and commercial failure ended the deal, with Meyer returning to independent filmmaking for the rest of his career.
  • Meyer later regretted making the film, since, as a serious legal drama, it wasn't the kind of film that had made him successful.
  • Legendary movie critic Roger Ebert, who had co-written Beyond the Valley of the Dolls with Meyer, wrote that The Seven Minutes was meant as Meyer's statement against censorship but that it was not "a Russ Meyer film in the classical vein."
