Review of The Psycho Lover

A serial killing rapist is on the loose. One of the patients of a psychiatrist, Kenneth Alden (Lawrence Montaigne) named Marco (Frank Cuva) is a suspect of being the killer. Even though (During psychoanalysis) he gives the crimes in detail, there is never enough physical evidence to prove Marco's gulit. I guess this was at a time when taped confessions weren't enough proof!

When Kenneth isn't working on the case, he secludes to his hobbies which include boat riding, driving around in his George Jetson automobile, and showing plenty of love and affection towards his mistress, Stacy (Elizabeth Plumb). A mistress, you say? Yup. It appears that Kenneth's martial matrimony to wife, Valerie (Jo Anne Meredith) is in absolute ruins. But Valerie, who knows about the mistress, finds pure enjoyment of torturing Kenneth by not divorcing him. She even tells Kenneth that she won't give him the satisfaction of finding another man! Whoa! As the sex crimes and taped confessions go on, Kenneth makes an interesting discovery. He finds out that there's a "Voice" which talks to Marco into killing women. Kenneth then comes up with a devious plan to brainwash Marco into killing Valerie by becoming the voice! Will the plan be successful and have Kenneth and Stacy living happily ever after?

Though there is quite a bit of inconsistency going on in the early half of this film with the back and forth storylines between Kenneth's love life and Marco's crimes, the movie REALLY comes alive towards the climax. Including a fantastic trip-out sequence as we go into Marco's psychotic mind which is filled with topless, harlequin clones of the women he's killed causing a state of delirium. I probably would recommend this movie just for this scene alone, but it's soon topped by the final 15 minutes of the movie. A surprisingly suspenseful and sardonic conclusion that I did not see coming! So while this movie takes a while to get going (Along with having to endure with a couple of mind-dumingly-awful love songs appearing on the the soundtrack) it ends BIG!
