- Banned in Spain in 1935 and in Portugal from 1930-1974.
- The ending is a reference to The Marquis de Sade's infamous novel The 120 Days of Sodom, which later inspired another film on this site.
- This marked the end of Luis Buñuel's and Salvador Dalí's friendship and creative partnership. Dalí refused to have anything to do with the production of the film. It was so bad between them that on the first day of shooting, Buñuel chased Dalí off the set with a hammer.
- The opening documentary about scorpions was an actual film produced in 1912.
