Overview

Don Lee Stroud (born September 1, 1943, Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American actor and surfer who appeared in many films in the 1960s, '70s and '80s, and has starred in over 100 movies and 175 television shows to date. Stroud played many hard-ass roles during the seventies and if you wanted hired killers, mafia henchmen, bikers or a hit man then Don was the guy you'd call. He was born in Hawaii in 1937, the son of Vaudville star Clarence Stroud and singer Ann McCormack. In 1960, at the age of 17, he placed fourth in the "Duke Kahanamoku World Surfing Championship" at Makaha, Hawaii. Don was surfing at Waikiki when he was discovered. Actor Troy Donahue was filming "Hawaiian Eye" (1959) and needed a stunt double for his surfing scenes. Don, at 18, 6' 2" and 175 pounds, stepped up and was hired on the spot. He loved the job so much, he decided to go to Hollywood to give it a try. After moving to Los Angeles, he worked his way up from parking attendant to manager/bouncer at the world famous Whisky-a-Go-Go nightclub on Sunset Strip. After being discovered by a talent scout from Universal his first film appearance was in BANNING in 1967. Since then Don has appeared in many a classic movie including Don Siegel's COOGAN'S BLUFF with Clint Eastwood. He's a tall, hefty dude who really throws his weight around in fights especially when doing a bit of the old karate in Sudden Death among others.
