"50 years of disrupting media"

The modern low-budget indie studio! Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz started Troma Films in the 1970s, producing and distributing films on extremely tight budgets. Their breakout hit was 1984's The Toxic Avenger, and their catalog includes the acting debuts of big mainstream Hollywood stars Kevin Costner (Malibu Hot Summer) and Dustin Hoffman (Madigan's Million) and future director Oliver Stone (The Battle Of Love's Return). The box office failures of Troma's War and Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD led to a period of financial hardship during the 1990s.

Along with their own movies, Troma annually holds its own film festival Tromadance, opposite Robert Redford's Sundance. The festival screens independent films from all over the world, with the best getting released on DVD.
