Paramount Pictures
From The Grindhouse Cinema Database
Paramount Pictures was founded in 1912 by William Wadsworth Hodkinson and later bought by Adolph Zukor and Jesse L. Lasky. It was one of the original Big Five studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. It is the fifth oldest film studio in the world. The mountain in the studio's iconic logo is said to be a rendering of Ben Lomond, a snowy peak near Ogden, Utah, where studio founder William Wadsworth Hodkinson operated his first theaters. Some maintain the summit is Mount Artesonraju in the Blanca range of the Peruvian Andes or the Italian side of Monte Viso in the Alps. The stars in the logo represent the 22 actors that Paramount had signed to the studios in 1916 including the likes of Mary Pickford, Gloria Swanson and Clara Bow.
