DVD Review

Picture: The film is presented in 1:85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen. The transfer looks great. Colors are vivid. Audio: Dolby Digital 2.0. Clear audio, but retains some of those great pops and crackles you'd hear in a downtown grindhouse theater. Featuring some great 80s rock music.

Special Features

DISC ONE: Audio commentary #1 with Sal Landi, Robert Dryer and Cinematographer Stephen Posey. Audio Commentary #2 with Director Danny Steinmann. Audio Commentary #3 with Actors Robert Dryer, Johnny Venocur, Producer John Strong (the most entertaining of the three commentaries).

DISC TWO: Interviews with Linda Blair: "Confessions of a Teenage Vigilante", Linnea Quigley: "Heather Speaks", Robert Dryer, Johnny Venocur, John Strong. The cast and producer John Strong fondly remember their time working on the film together and how much fun they had learning about the business as young actors. TRIVIA: If you've ever seen the VH-1 show "Scott Baio: 45 and Single" you may recognize the motormouthed Johnny Venocur who played Vince in the film. This guy is hysterical.

Final Word: This 2 Disc Special Edition of Savage Streets really is a celebratory look back at the film. All the people involved gave their best to make a memorable movie when it actually could've been a complete disaster with the funding problems and the very rapid pace in which it was made. Savage Streets was really a labor of love for these actors, who were mostly all just starting out in the business. You can see in their interviews, they took the film as serious as any big Hollywood studio production and their hard work along with John Strong and Danny Steinmann's direction and writing gave the movie a huge boost quality wise. If you happen to be a fan of exploitation cinema, you'll definitely want to pick this title up.
