The New Beverly

From The Grindhouse Cinema Database

The New Beverly theater is located on Beverly Blvd in West Hollywood. The building was constructed in 1929. In 1934 it was a retail outlet for a winery and sometime around 1950 it was converted into a movie theater. It's had many names over the decades including the Century, the Ben Bard Playhouse, the Hollywood Repertory Theatre, the Dahl Theatre, the New Globe, the Capri/Riviera (a twin), New Yorker Theatre, the Europa, the Eros, the Beverly Cinema and finally the New Beverly Cinema. It was saved from bankruptcy by Quentin Tarantino and was subsequently taken over by him in 2014. It continues to be a unique repertoire movie theater showing only film prints and often screening double features and monthly specials.
