Film Review

Image:Horroricon.jpg

Filmmaker Pete Walker never made it big in the movie business. But he didn't care. His fans and his supporters loved House of Whipcord (1974) and Amok (1977). But in the 80's he made House of the Long Shadows (1983) (which is a homage to all the UK Horror actors). With that film he reached a little fame. After that he retired from the movie business.

1957...

Dorothy (Sheila Keith) and Edmund Yates (Rupert Davies) are in court as defendants. The law claims that Dorothy has killed many men and ate them. Edmund is also indicted, but in his case only as the accomplice (he only put away the dead bodies). Through a doctor certificate they don't get the death penalty and both end up in a mental facility.

Years later...

Debbie (Kim Butcher) and her friends brutally beat down a bartender. Everybody runs away because a witness steps into the place but still, Debbie stays. Then she kills the bartender and the police show up but the dead body is gone (only some blood is left on the ground). Debbie lives with her older sister Jackie (Deborah Fairfax) in an apartment (as we can hear she grew up in an orphanage). Jackie visits her parents once a week on a farm and brings them a package. But Debbie knows nothing about it (she still thinks her parents are dead). The sisters parents just got released out of a mental facility (yeah it's Dorothy and Edmund Yates). First it seems Dorothy is sane but then she receives people who haven't got any relatives. Then she lays tarot cards for them (every time the last card is the death card). I can't write any further because that would be too many spoilers. But a good question would be... What's in the package? (haha).

Great film. I was surprised. Too bad Pete Walker retired from filmmaking in 1983. He had skills. Deborah Fairfax was lovely as an actress. What is she doing nowadays? No nudity in this movie, but what the heck? Some films don't need nudity. This one is only about the story. To wrap this review up...Highly Recommended!
