Born November 9, 1936, Stephanie Rothman became famous as one of the few top female filmmakers of exploitation films. She started as an associate producer on Roger Corman's Queen of Blood, Beach Ball and Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet before becoming a director herself. Her first solo direction job was It's a Bikini World. She was the uncredited second unit director for the car chase sequence in Beach Ball. She and her writer/director husband Charles S. Swartz were part-owners of Dimension Pictures. Her movies focused on strong female lead characters. She was the first woman to receive a Directors Guild of America fellowship. Her last film was Starhops, which she wrote under the pseudonym "Dallas Meredith". She was honored with a retrospective of her work at the Vienna International Film Festival in 2007.
